St. Philip's Church and Nursery School:
A Special Relationship for Sixty Years
When the vestry of St. Philip's Church in the Highlands began the Nursery School some 60 years ago, they were continuing a vital Episcopalian tradition. According to the NAES, "Episcopal schools are created to be communities that honor, celebrate and worship God as the center of life. They are created to be models of God’s love and grace. They are created to serve God in Christ in all persons, regardless of origin, background, ability, or religion. They are created to strive for justice and peace among all people and [to] respect the dignity of every human being.”
Children at St. Philip's Nursery School attend chapel in the Church weekly with the Reverend Amanda Eiman and their teachers. A hymn and prayer have long been woven into the fabric of Nursery School life, and the lyrics are below. Children also say grace before their mid-morning snack. In their daily teaching of the importance of kindness, consideration, and respect for others, the Nursery School staff embody Episcopalian values.

Father, we thank Thee for the night, and for the pleasant morning light.
For rest and food and loving care, and all that makes the world so fair.
Amen

Thank you for my milk and bread.
Thank you for my cozy bed.
Thank you for my friends at play.
And for every day. Amen

God whose name is love, happy children we,
