GARRISON………………...For the sixtieth consecutive occasion, St. Philip’s Nursery School awarded diplomas and moving-up certificates, this year to a very happy group of 27 children. For the first time, the ceremony was held outdoors, welcoming family and friends under a brilliant blue sky in front of the Parish House that houses the preschool. Eleven graduates are headed to kindergarten and the remaining sixteen will advance a class. St. Philip’s Nursery School was established in 1960 to serve the families of Philipstown; its founder was Anne Osborn Prentice, and her daughter-in-law Anita Prentice served as the Interim Director for the 2020-2021 school year. Incoming new Director Betsy Alberty welcomed families to the ceremony and praised the teachers for their success in keeping the children well and safe in a challenging year. Continuing the long relationship between St. Philip’s Nursery School and the Garrison School, Superintendent Carl Albano spoke to both the parents and the children, emphasizing the importance of a positive preschool experience. He also commended St. Philip’s for its record of a year with no closures for COVID. The Rev. Amanda Eiman offered a closing prayer. The Class of 2021 graduates are Addalie Van Amburgh, Megan Bunora, Catherine Cooper, Gunnar D’Agostino, Benny Donaldson, Luca Innocenti, Lillian Levy, Leonardo Stelluti, Charlie Stephens, Freddie Stephens, and Dylan Wynn. Moving up two and three year olds are Juliette Arocho, Kash Barton, Emma Bishop, Maggie Cannon, Hailey Corkrum, Jane Felder, Finnegan Hagale, Leo Hobbs, Elliott Hammond, Theo Jansen, Troy Kaiser, Grace Levy, Ellie Patterson, Teddy Rust, Henry Starner, and Vincent DePippo. St. Philip’s Nursery School, a program of St. Philip’s Church since 1960, presents a developmentally-appropriate nurturing morning preschool program for children ages two through four. In addition to their play-based curriculum, St. Philip’s Nursery School offers music and movement, science and Spanish. A five-week summer camp program is currently fully enrolled.
